James Cameron was so impressed by Star Wars he quit his job as a trucker to become a director.

The Avatar filmmaker admits the George Lucas sci-fi epic inspired him to do more with the movie images he had in his head than simply talk about them.

He says, "I said, 'OK, I've got imagery like that in my head; if that's what people really want to see... I'm doing the wrong thing, driving a truck.'"

And Cameron's career change was possibly the best decision that he ever made having become of the most uccessful filmakers.

In a career that has spanned over thirty years he has enjoyed movie successes such as The Terminator and Aliens.

But he produced the biggest grossing movie of all time back in 1997 when he directed Titanic. The movie went on to win eleven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.

But it's Avatar that has brought the director huge critical and commercial success as the 3D sci-fi epic toppled Titanic to become the biggest grossing movie, going on break through the $2 billion barrier.

Despite missing out on the Best Picture and Best Director at this year's Oscars, Avatar has paved the way for 3D movies.
