James Cameron believes that the release of Avatar on DVD is going to be 'a big experiment' and 'interesting' as the movie looks set to be one of the biggest sellers of 2010.

Avatar has already become the biggest grossing movie of all time during it's cinema release, breaking the $2 billion barrier.

And it looks like fans are already flocking to pick up their DVD or Blu-Ray copies.

Speaking to BBC new the filmmaker said: "I tell you what it's going to be a big experiment. It's going to be very interesting.

"We were just told we broke a one day record for the Blu-Ray. So we're helping to sell Blu-Ray disc players and big TV sets so it's all good, it's all heading in the right direction."

Despite the excitement currently surrounding the release the movie will be re-released in cinemas later this year as Cameron has added a further six minutes of unseen footage to the movie.

"We know that people still want to have this experience in movie theatres because we were sold up right until that day it left cinemas.

"You know people were waiting around the block and boom they couldn't have it any more so we're going to give it back to the public in August."

Last week Cameron revealed that he was already planning a sequel and looked to explore the oceans of Pandora.
