James Cameron believes that 3D is a revolution and the future.

Cameron showed the movie world and cinema go-ers the power and potential of 3D film at the end of last year with the release of his sc-fi epic Avatar.

The movie went on to break the box office record grossing over $2.7 million at the global box office.

Speaking at a technology forum in Seoul the Oscar winning director said: "Avatar has proved that 3-D technology is not just a fad but a revolution changing how the audience chooses to consume media and entertainment content.

"Quite simply, where they had a choice, the audience was selecting for the best possible way to see the movie. And they saw 3-D as the premium viewing experience."

The movie went on to be nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, winning three; Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best visual Effects.

And Avatar was not just a 3D one hit wonder as Alice In Wonderland also enjoyed major box office success earlier this year.

The Tim Burton movie took over $965 million worldwide and has become of the top ten biggest grossing movies of all time.
