Jason Segel has called penning The Five-Year Engagement a 'challenge'.

The actor is back on the big screen later this year alongside Emily Blunt in the comedy/romance.

But he went on to reveal that movie was an 'honest exploration; of a relationship and how it changes.

Speaking to Collider Segel said: "Yeah, it was a challenge to write, and was certainly a challenge to edit, because there are no big plot movements.

"It's a very earnest exploration about how a relationship is fluid, and when you choose a partner and say, 'I want to marry you', you're not saying it for this moment, you're saying it for your whole life, and what's going to be ever-shifting power dynamics.

"It really is an honest exploration of relationships. It was tricky to write, but the best ones are that.

Nicholas Stoller is in the director's chair for the movie while Chris Pratt and Alison Brie star alongside Segel and Blunt.

The Five-Year Engagement is released 22nd June.
