Jason Statham has revealed that he took on The Expendables movie because he wanted to work with Sylvester Stallone.

Stallone is back in front and behind the camera with his new action movie and Statham was just one name that he landed as the British star was joined by Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Randy Couture and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Speaking to OK! Magazine the actor said:  "I got a call and was asked if I'd have something to eat with Sylvester Stallone because he wanted to talk to me about the film. He is like a cinema god!

"I grew up watching his films like 'Rambo' and Rocky'. I think Sly is as big as they come. He is the most recognised film star in the world. I've seen all his movies.

"I'm very familiar with everything he's done. That's why I got so excited about doing this film."

And while the actor admits that he loved every minute of working on The Expendables Statham jokes that Stallone was a bit of a bully.

"He's a bit of a bully actually. He carries a big stick around and starts ordering tea and coffee.

"I found myself in a situation where I got to know the real man behind the camera. He wasn't the filmmaker any more, he was just a regular guy. I think that was the best part about working with Sly - getting to know him as a person."

The Expendables is out now.
