Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem has revealed that he received advice from Jack Nicholson before picking up his Oscar in 2008.

Bardem won Best Supporting actor for his great turn in the Coen Brothers' No Country For Old Men and he admits that he was nervous before collecting his award.

Speaking on the tonight Show With jay Leno the actor said: "I was very nervous with my [acceptance speech] list of things and I said, 'Mr Nicholson, I don't know what to do'. He said, 'Drop the names, don't get emotional and dedicate it your mother'.

"That’s what I did! I nailed it - it was 45 seconds!"

And more Oscar recognition has come the way of the star this year as he has picked up a Best Actor nod for his central role in Biutiful.

Bardem is nominated alongside James Franco, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeff Bridges and Colin Firth - who is the favourite to walk away with the award.
