Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem looks set to sweep Julia Roberts off her feet - he's in talks to star as her onscreen love interest in new film Eat, Pray, Love.

Bardem is negotiating with executives at Columbia Pictures to play Felipe, the man Roberts' character falls in love with during a worldwide journey of self-discovery.

The movie follows Gilbert (Roberts) who, after a painful break up and divorce set off around the world visiting Rome, India and Bali. Here she meets Felipe.

Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner are producing the screenplay, adapted from Elizabeth Gilbert's bestselling novel, through their production company Plan B, and actor Richard Jenkins has signed on to co-star.

Filming is scheduled to begin in July (09) and will take place in New York, Rome, India and Bali, reports industry paper Daily Variety.

Julia Roberts has enjoyed a successful year at the box office, after slowly returning to the big screen after taking time out to be a mum, with Duplicity and Fireflies in the Garden.

And Javier Bardem is still riding on the wave of his 2008 Best Supporting Oscar win for No Country For Old Men finding more success with Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona earlier this year.
