Joss Whedon

Joss Whedon has revealed that he was inspired by The Dirty Dozen and Black Hawk Down when making his new movie Avengers Assemble.

The director steps into the big budget blockbuster this summer as he brings together a whole host of Marvel heroes to help save the world.

And Whedon admits that he was inspired by but the war element and the internal conflict of those two movies.

Speaking to Total Film he admits that the Dirty Dozen was "the first movie I referenced when Marvel asked me what I'd do if they gave me the [Avengers] script".

"People forget, but that movie is an hour-and-a-half of training and 20 minutes of Nazi fighting.

"It helped me to say, you can have time to let these people get to know each other; their conflict can be as interesting as their conflict with the villain."

Avengers Assemble see Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, The Hulk, Nick Fury and Black Widow come together to fight Loki.

Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Tom Hiddleston are all on the cast list.

Avengers Assemble is released 27th April.
