Karl Urban as Dredd

Karl Urban as Dredd

Karl Urban has revealed that not being able to connect with an audience using his eyes was a major challenge on his new movie Dredd.

The actor takes on the role of Judge Dredd in a re-imagining of the popular comic book character which is released in cinemas this week.

And true to the original stories Dredd never removes his helmet in the movie and Urban found this to be one of the toughest aspects of making this movie.

Speaking exclusively to FemaleFirst the actor said: That was the challenge. The eyes are one of the most important tools for an actor so not having that forced me to look at what else I had available and that was the voice.

"I also looked at body language because how you do what you do becomes very important."

Pete Travis is in the director's chair for the movie while Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey are also on the cast list.

We haven't seen Urban on the big screen since Priest but he has already completed work on The Loft and has been linked to the latest Riddick movie.

He has also finished filming the Star Trek sequel where he will be reprising the role of Bones.

Dredd is released 7th September.
