Kate Hudson shed 20 pounds (nine kilograms) for her new role in new movie Earthbound by giving up alcohol.
The Hollywood actress was forced to slim down to portray a terminally ill woman who falls in love with her doctor.
She found the perfect diet solution in cutting out her favourite boozy beverages, but admits it wasn't easy.
She tells Elle magazine, "I love my glass of wine. I love tequila. To be in New York for two weeks and not have one beverage, I'm not sure I've ever done that!"
Hudson has moved between comedy and drama this year after Bride Wars, which she starred in with Anne Hathaway, she returns to the big screen later this month with Nine.
Starring alongside Daniel Day Lewis, Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman Nine is a biopic that follows famous film director Guido Contini struggles to find harmony in his professional and personal lives, as he engages in dramatic relationships with his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent, and his mother.
The actress is currently filming the Michael Winterbottom directed The Killer Inside Me.
