Kathryn Bigelow has been described as 'overrated by writer Bret Easton Ellis.
Bigelow is back in the director's chair for Zero Dark Thirty a movie that is hotly tipped to be a major Oscar contender when the nominations are announced.
But Ellis believe that because Bigelow is a 'hot woman' she gets more attention than perhaps she deserves.
Writing on his Twitter page he said: "Zero Dark Thirty might win critics awards but Silver Linings Playbook will win the Best Picture Oscar," Ellis wrote. "This is how it always happens..."
Ellis went on: "Kathryn Bigelow would be considered a mildly interesting filmmaker if she was a man but since she's a very hot woman she's really overrated."
Bigelow already has the Best Picture and Best Director Oscar double under her belt for The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty is her first movie since that success.
The film is already picking up Best Picture wins at the National Board of Review and the New York Film Critics Circle Awards.
Zero Dark Thirty is released 25th January.
