Kenneth Branagh will not be returning to direct the Thor sequel.
Branagh took on his first big budget blockbuster earlier this summer as he brought Thor, the latest Marvel character to get the big screen treatment, to the big screen.
The movie has been one of the big hits of the summer grossing in excess of $436 million at the global box office.
That kind of success has secured a second outing from the hammer wielding hero and Chris Hemsworth will be returning in the title role.
Earlier this year Branagh had expressed an interest in directing a second movie - speaking to MTV he said: "The prospect of [a sequel] is very tantalizing and fascinating.
"I loved working with this group of actors and had a fantastic experience working with everyone in the Marvel family."
However it isn't to be - but a replacement has not yet been named.
July 2013 is the scheduled release date for the second movie. We will see Thor before then as Hemsworth is currently filming The Avengers, which will be out next year.
