Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow has said that he is keen to pack the sequel with "heart and emotion".

The Never Back Down helmer has been confirmed to take the reins for the sequel to Matthew Vaughn's 2010 adaptation of Mark Millar's superhero comic, NME reports

Speaking to Total Film he said: "I think the most important thing that's gonna change from the Kick-Ass 2 comic to Kick-Ass 2 the movie was just really finding an emotial story to tell."

"Because what I certainly loved about the first film, and what I think elevated it above most comic book adaptions, is the heart and emotion in it. It was sort of my challenge as the filmmaker and storyteller to find out something as emotional in the second film. I think we have some stuff that people are really gonna respond to."

It has already been revealed that the film will incorporate the events of both Millar's Kick-Ass 2 storyline and the forthcoming Hit-Girlmini-series. And although Chloe Moretz has not yet been confirmed to return as the child assassin, Wadlow said the character will still have a "major" role to play.

He said: "If you've read the comic, you know, she gives up being Hit-Girl, which was a brilliant idea I thought. It's something I explore quite deeply in the movie because what happens in the comic is she sort of steps away from the story in many ways.

"I was quite interested in what happens to her when she's not being Hit-Girl. Her story is a major, major part of the film and she’s excited about the ideas and we're in talks [with Moretz]."

Kick-Ass 2 goes behind the cameras in September.
