Kevin MacDonald has revealed that Channing Tatum's burnt crotch improved his performance in The Eagle.
Tatum revealed last month that boiling water was accidentally poured down his wetsuit whilst filming MacDonald's latest movie - resulting in a very delicate injury.
However MacDonald admits that the pain that Tatum was in really came across in the battle scenes of the movie.
Speaking to Total Film the director said: "In some ways it did me a favour because what I was trying to do in that section was break him down.
"But Channing's such a bulk and so strong and capable that it's very hard to make him feel like he's reached the end.
"He could hardly walk but it was good because it meant that when he was fighting in the final battle he was in pain and couldn't do it very well."
The Eagle is the first feature for MacDonald since the success of State of Play in 2009 - he did go on to make documentary Life In A Day.
The Eagle is released 25th March.
