Mark Ruffalo admits that he probably wouldn't have taken on a movie such as The Avengers in the past.

The actor joins the ensemble cast of Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans as he takes over the role of The Hulk in the Joss Whedon directed project which is due to begin filming at some point this year.

But the actor admits that this is a completely new genre of movie for him.

Speaking to Sunday Herald Sun (via What's Playing) he said: "I probably wouldn't have done this movie in the past. But because of what Robert [Downey Jr] had done and where that genre has gone since then, I did it.

"I have never really been one to go for the cash. If my dad knew how much money I had turned in my lifetime he would kick me in the a..."

Ruffalo has starred in The Kids Are Alright, Shutter Island and Date Night already this year and will next be seen in movie Margaret. The movie is directed by Kenneth Lonergan and also stars Anna Paquin and Matt Damon.

As well as The Avengers movie Second Coming is also in the pipeline for Ruffalo which sees him team up with Oscar winner Marion Cotillard.
