Mark Wahlberg believes that Transformers 4 could be the most important role of his career.

The actor is set to take over the lead role in the franchise as director Michael Bay leads the series down a different path with the latest instalment.

Wahlberg and Bay have already worked together on project Pain and Gain and they were eager to team up once again.

And the Oscar nominated actor admits that he his excited about beginning work on the big budget blockbuster.

Speaking to ComingSoon.net the actor said: "I'm really excited about Transformers," Wahlberg told ComingSoon.net.

"Michael Bay and I just did Pain and Gain, and we had such a good time making it. He came to me and said, 'I'm kind of doing a whole different reboot on Transformers. Are you interested?' I said, 'Yeah, I'll do it!'

"I loved the idea, and I think we can make something really cool and kick-ass. This is not something where it's already established and I'm just in there to get a paycheck.

"I'm thinking this is the most important role of my career and I can do something really special.

"It's the only time my kids have ever been interested in a movie I'm making."

And we are going to be seeing plenty of Wahlberg on the big screen next year as he has already completed work on Broken City, Lone Survivor, Pain and Gain and 2 Guns.

As well as shooting Transformers 2 next year he is also set to film a sequel to comedy smash Ted.

Transformers 4 is scheduled to hit the big screen 27th June 2014.
