Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg has admitted that he only starred in Planet of the Apes because he wanted the chance to work with filmmaker Tim Burton.

Planet of the Apes was released back in 2001 and was a remake of the 1968 classic that starred Charlton Heston.

Despite it's talented cast of Wahlberg, Helen Bonham Carter, Tim Roth and Paul Giamatti the movie was critically mauled when it was released.

In an interview with Total Film Wahlberg said: "I didn't necessarily think Planet Of The Apes would be the best movie to remake, but I wanted to work with Tim Burton.

"At that point, I was choosing roles that allowed me to grow, to learn from great artists."

But Wahlberg went on to capture a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his role in Martin Scorsese's The Departed and returns to the big screen next month with The Lovely Bones.

The adaptation of Alice Sebold's popular novel sees the actor team up with another big name director in the form of Peter Jackson.

Wahlberg takes on the role of Jack Salmon, a grieving father who is trying to get justice for his murdered daughter.

And there are busy times ahead for Wahlberg with Date Night and The Fighter both in post production and he is currently filming The Other Guys.
