Martin Scorsese had praised the acting ability of Rupert Grint.

Scorsese has revealed that he enjoyed Grint's performances in the Harry Potter movies but believes that he now must vary his roles.

In an interview with The Sun the director said: "I thought he was a great actor in the Harry Potter movies.

"In a lot of scenes, the boy stole the show. He will always have respect for the movies that gave him such a huge break, but at his age it's important he doesn't become typecast."

And the Oscar winning filmmaker had some tips for Grint as the actor movies away from the Harry Potter franchise.

"He has to do something really out of his comfort zone in the next few years - play a gangster, play a dirty cop, play a kid with learning difficulties.

"I would be interested in working with him. I would have no issues in casting him as a gangster, he is a very talented young man."

Grint has completed filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which will be split into two movies the first part arriving in cinemas in November and the second next summer.

As for Scorsese he has a Sinatra biopic picture in the pipeline.
