Oscar winner Matt Damon is set to be honoured for his film career at an award ceremony next year (10).

The actor, whose career took off following the success of 1997's Good Will Hunting, which he wrote with pal Ben Affleck, will be feted with the prestigious American Cinematheque Award, reports Variety.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place in March. Previous recipients of the award include actor Samuel L. Jackson, who accepted the statuette in December 2008, and Julia Roberts who was lauded in 2007.

For his Good Will Hunting script, a movie which he also starred in, landed both Damon and Affleck a Best Original Script Oscar and tha pair had arrived on the Hollywood scene.

But it was the role of Jason Bourne in the Bourne trilogy of movies that really launched him to superstardom, a fourth film is currently in the pipeline.

The Ocean's series of films have also brought the actor success. But the drama is not a genre of film that the actor has avoided with role in the likes of The Good Shepherd and new movie The Informant.

He will reunite with Paul Green grass this year for The Green Zone.
