Matthew Vaughn has revealed that his new movie X-Men: First Class has been influenced by the  early Bond movies.

The British filmmaker is back in the director's chair next week as he brings a fifth X-Men movie to the big screen and a second spin off from the original trilogy.

The movie is set decades before 2000's X-Men and looks at the early lives and friendship of Professor Xavier and Magneto.

And Vaughn admits that he wanted to get the feel of the sixties spot on and watch some of the early Bond movies for inspiration.

Speaking to Hitflix the filmmaker said: "There were two main influences I had. First, I watched all the early Bond movies again.

"You Only Live Twice, I watched a couple of times. I really wanted it to feel like a '60s Bond film, but with a little bit of reality it could be grounded in."

X-Men: First Class is the first movie for Vaughn since the release of Kick Ass last year as he brings together an impressive cast that includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, January Jones and Jennifer Lawrence.

X-Men: First Class is released 1st June.
