Edge of Darkness

Edge of Darkness

Avatar remains undefeated at the top of the U.S. box office once again.

Grossing a further $30 million this weekend as the sci-fi epic refused to be budged from the number one spot.

Last week James Cameron's movie overtook Titanic as the biggest grossing movie of all time, a record that has stood for twelve years.

All eyes look to Hollywood tomorrow to see how many nominations the film has notched up when the Academy Award nominees are announced.

Mel Gibson is back in business at the box office as his new movie Edge of Darkness opened at two, these new entries just can't find a way to topple Avatar.

As homicide detective Thomas Craven investigates the death of his activist daughter, he uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence.

Gibson hasn't made a movie since Signs and has concentrated his efforts on directing in recent years.

Edge of Darkness is also a return to the big screen for filmmaker Martin Campbell, the man behind Casino Royale.

It was another new entry at three as Josh Duhamel and Kristen Bell team up for romantic comedy When In Rome.

The Tooth Fairy hung onto the number four spot while The Book of Eli fell two places from three to five.

This week's biggest faller came in the form of Legion as it dropped four places from two to six.
