Miranda Cosgrove has revealed that there are similarities between herself and her Despicable Me character.

The actress has currently swapped TV for the big screen as she voices the character of Margo in the latest animation movie, alongside Steve Carrell and Russell Brand.

And while Cosgrove admits that their strong spirit is similar she also knows that there are differences between them.

Speaking to Teen Hollywood she said: "I think a big part of the character is that she is really protective of her two little sisters and, in real life, I don't have any siblings.

"My best friend has a little sister, so I tried to use her a little bit because she’s always trying to make the right decisions and she’s always helping her sister.

"So, I just tried to be really authoritative because she has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders, even though she’s really young. She’s like the mum of these two little girls.

"I am like Margo because she’s pretty strong in the movie and she’s not afraid to stand up to Gru [her stepdad]. I’m a little like that. Especially when I was younger, like 10 or 11, I'd always try to get my way, and she does that a lot in the movie."

Despicable Me is released in UK 15th October
