Nicolas Cage has revealed that he took on the movie Season of the Witch because it was his childhood dream to play a knight.

The actor is back on the big screen this week with his new movie, which sees him team up with Ron Perlman, which sees him take on the role of the sword wielding Behman.

Talking to Collider the actor said: "What appealed to me? I think that I was in the right place at the right time in my head, for this kind of role.

"I wanted to make a movie that was really scary, play a knight and hang out in the forest, for a few years now, and that's exactly what this movie provided me with.

"Plus, the idea of playing a knight was something that I had been doing, ever since I was a child, in my backyard, so this gave me a chance to do it, as a child's dream come true."

2011 is set to be a busy one of the actor as he has already completed work on Drive Angry 3D, The Hungary Rabbit Jumps and Trespass -  all of which are set for release over the coming months.

He is currently filming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance which sees him reprise the role of Johnny Blaze for the first time since 2007.

Season of the Witch is released 7th January.
