Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage has revealed that he is less interested in making violent movies and likes working on projects that need imagination.

The actor is back on the big screen next week in The Sorcerer's Apprentice which is based on the Mickey Mouse section of Fantasia.

The film, which also stars Jay Baruchel and Alfred Molina, sees Cage reunite with his National Treasure filmmaker Jon Turteltaub filmmaker.

Speaking to MSN the actor said: "I've always had an interest in anything which involves the imagination, and I find that now I'm interested in making less violent films."

"That doesn't mean I will stop making violent movies, but a movie has to have the right tone - it can't be gratuitous.

"Fantasy movies give me the chance to use the metaphor instead, you don't have to literally take a gun to someone's head and shoot them. That is more interesting to me. Also, I feel the best way I can apply my abilities as an actor is to make families happy."

And while Cage has varied his roles over his career the actor admits that he is now enjoying working on family movies: "When I did National Treasure One and Two I started to notice that families were very enthusiastic and they would say hello to me and ask me if I was making another one and I could see the genuine excitement in the children."

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is released 13th August.
