Noel Clarke has said that his Bafta success just shows what individuals raised on council estates, as he was, can go on to achieve.

The popular actor won the Rising Star Award, the only gong voted for by the general public, on Sunday night for his work on Adulthood.

The movie, which was a sequel to Kidulthood, saw the actor write, star in as well as direct the project.

Speaking to The Sun he said: "It speaks volumes about what is happening in the world.

"If I'm not testament that a council estate kid can do all right then I don't know what is."

Clarke made a name for himself starring as Mickey Smith in the revamped series of Doctor Who, a role he regularly reprised until the end of the last series.

Up next for the actor is a movie called Heartless with 21 star Jim Burgess before teaming up with Danny Dyer for Doghouse.
