The actress takes on the role of Dr Elizabeth Shaw in Ridley Scott's new sci-fi movie a scientist who believes in god who finds herself on a journey into space looking for answers.

But Rapace admits that the journey is not what Shaw expected and we see her undergo a change throughout the movie.

Speaking in an exclusive Q&A in London this week the actress said: "She goes through a lot of things in the movie and she transforms.

"You know in the beginning she is not maybe naïve, but she is full of hope and a true believer and then things happen and she becomes a survivor and a fighter and a warrior in a way.

"I’m not sure that she is so convinced at the end of the movie. I think she realises that it wasn’t really what she expected."

This is the first lead role for Rapace in an English speaking movie after shooting to fame in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

She is joined on the cast list by Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce and it is Scott's first sci-fi movie in over thirty years.

Prometheus is released 1st June
