Sir Patrick Stewart's Broadway turn in A Life In The Theater has been cut short - the production will close five weeks early due to poor ticket sales.

The X-Men star has been appearing opposite former Grey's Anatomy's T.R. Knight in the David Mamet play, which tells the story of a veteran thespian and an aspiring actor.

The show was due to run until January (11), but producers have decided to close the show early because of slow seat sales.

The curtain will fall on 28 November (10), according to Broadwayworld.com.

The actor was last seen on the big screen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine last summer, reprising the role of Professor Xavier.

But he has lent his voice to Gnomeo And Juliet and Dorothy of Oz and has Sinbad: The Fifth Voyage in the pipeline.
