Puss In Boots tops the UK box office - knocking Arthur Christmas from the number one spot.

Puss In Boots is the first spin off movie from the popular Shrek franchise as seen Antonio Banderas return to voice the popular character.

The movie took £1.9 million in it's opening weekend to storm to the top of the box office.

Last week's number one movie Arthur Christmas slipped just a single place to two - taking a further £1.4 million.

New Year's Eve was another new entry in at number three as Garry Marshall returned to the director's chair for a second ensemble piece.

The movie comes hot off the heels of the success of Valentine's Day in 2010 and brought together a cast that included Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Michelle Pfeiffer and Zac Efron.

Hugo remained at number four this week while Happy Feet Two fell three places to round off the top five.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 fell three places to number six - the movie has so far taken in excess of $634 million at the global box office.

My Week with Marilyn was down just a single place at seven this week while A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas was new at eight.

This week's biggest faller was The Thing as it dropped four places from five to nine. The top ten was rounded off by a fourth and final new entry, Another Earth.
