Robert Downey Jr says that he is one the same page with Iron Man 3 filmmaker Shane Black.

The Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director will take over the helm of the Marvel franchise after the departure of Jon Favreau, who directed the first two movies.

The movie is scheduled for a summer 2013 release and Downey Jr reveals that Black is currently working on a script.

Speaking to Hero Complex the actor said: "Bringing in Shane Black to write and direct Iron Man 3 to me is basically the only transition from Favreau to a 'next thing' that Favreau and the audience and Marvel and I could ever actually sign off on."

"[Black's] more than the sum of his parts and he's also kind of been a sleeper for a long time.

"We're not talking much about [the script] right now because Shane is off writing and we talked before that, and when we are talking again the talking is going to be over pretty quick [because we're on the same page]."

Downey Jr will reprise the role of Tony Stark next year in The Avengers, alongside Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo; who are set to play Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and The Hulk.
