Ryan Phillippe

Ryan Phillippe admits that he would have loved to landed the Captain America role.

The Crash actor was one of the frontrunners for the role of Steve Rogers, alongside Chris Evans and Jon Hamm; Evans finally landing the part.

Captain America: The First Avenger is just the latest Marvel comic book character to get the big screen treatment, the character will also go on to appear in The Avengers movie.

He told Advocate magazine: "It's something I would've loved to do, especially for my six-year-old son, who would've thought it was the coolest thing in the world. The child within me really loved the idea of it too.

"There are very few things I'd get that excited about, but as an actor you have to move on.

"At some point I'd love to do something action-oriented like that because I've been in martial arts since I was eight."

Despite that disappointment Phillippe is back on the big screen this summer with his new movie McGruber, which sees him star alongside Val Kilmer and Kristen Wiig.

And there's plenty in the pipeline for the actor as The bang Bang Club is in post production whilst Tlatelolco: Mexico 68 and The Lincoln Lawyer are both in the horizon.
