Samantha Barks

Samantha Barks has compared playing Eponine on stage to playing her on film.

The actress makes her big screen debut this week as she plays Eponine in Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Les Misérables - a role that she played for a year in the West End.

And Barks admits that she has got a huge satisfaction from playing this role in the theatre as well on film.

Speaking to Total Film the actress said: "On stage, you get an instant buzz. You perform, you can feel the audience with you. It’s electric and it feels amazing.

"With film it’s satisfying in a different way. You get to add so much more bulk to a role. You can be so intimate but also as big as you are on a stage."

Les Misérables sees the actress team up with Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway and it is a movie that is sure to send her star rocketing.

Les Misérables is released 11th January.
