Sylvester Stallone: Batman Changed Action Movies

Sylvester Stallone believes that Tim Burton's Batman changed action movies.

Stallone is back on the big screen next month with his new movie The Expendables, which brings together an impressive cast of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis, but believes that the 1980's superhero movie changed the genre.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times: It was that first Batman movie. The action movies changed radically when it became possible to Velcro your muscles on.

"It was the beginning of a new era. The visual took over. The special effects became more important than the single person. That was the beginning of the end."

He continued: "I wish I had thought of Velcro muscles myself. I didn't have to go to the gym for all those years, all the hours wedded to the iron game, as we call it."

The Expendables sees Stallone both star and direct the film, his first movie since 2008's Rambo.

The Expendables is released 19th August.
