Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone has revealed that he wants to be a role model.

The actor was in London last night for the UK premiere of his new movie The Expendables, which he wrote stars in and directs.

And while Stallone is one of the biggest action stars to have ever graced the big screen the Oscar winner hopes that he has a positive influence on young people.

Speaking on the red carpet in Leicester Square the actor said: "Every generation has to have a hero and this generation has the superhero, it's evolved. But after Avatar it's like, 'Stop, let's go back to basics'.

"Young men need good examples, role models. I know I do, and I hope I might be one of the influences on young guys."

The Expendables is the first movie, acting or directing, for Stallone since Rambo back in 2008 and he brings together an impressive cast list that includes Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren, who were both in London last night, as well as Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis.

The Expendables is released 20th August.
