The Blind Side

The Blind Side

The Blind Side is the new number one movie in Australia after jumping up six places to claim the top spot.

Sandra Bullock is the favourite to scoop the Best Actress Oscar on Sunday for her central performance in the movie.

Directed by John Lee Hancock the movie follows the story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family.

There was no move at two and three as Shutter Island and Avatar held on but last week's number one Valentine's Day dropped three places from one to four, it was this week's biggest faller.

There was also no move for Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief which rounded off the top five.

Possibly just days away as making history as the first female filmmaker to win Best Picture Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker moved up two places from eight to six.

There was a one place drop for John Travolta's From Paris With Love and The Wolfman was also sliding down the chart as it dropped from five to eight.

There was just one new entry inside the top ten and that came in the form of A Single Man, starring Colin Firth.

Firth's central performance in the Tom Ford directed movie saw him pick up the Bafta for Best Actor and will be in contention to with the Oscar on Sunday evening.
