Ahead of the release of the swashbuckling new movie from Aardman Animation ‘The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists’, FILMCLUB - the nationwide after-school initiative and experts in films for young people - took Young Ambassador Leonardo to meet and interview the stars of the film live on the red carpet.

FILMCLUB chatted to all the A-list stars of the movie including Hugh Grant (About A Boy, Four Weddings and a Funeral), David Tennant (Dr Who, How to Train Your Dragon) and the movies Director and Aardman founder Peter Lord.

They discussed what attracted them to animation, how recording in a vocal booth differs from live action on set and even what Hugh Grant would hide in his beard if he had one like his character, Pirate Captain.

"There’s a lot I’d put in it" admitted the star, "I’d put my mobile phone, keys, some cheese and I’d probably put my golf clubs in there as well."   Meanwhile screenplay writer Gideon Defoe explained that the original books on which the film is based came about as a bid to ‘impress a girl’

"but then by luck Aardman read my book and decided they were going to turn it into a film". Finally David Tennant gave a glimpse into his charcter, Charles Darwin:

"I wouldn’t say he’s entirely a baddie, he’s a bit misunderstood, he’s a bit of a victim of his own arrogance but by the end of the film he’s come on a bit of a journey and he’s come good."
