Thor

Thor

Thor has toppled Fast Five from the top of the U.S. box office.

After scoring a #1 hit in the UK the movie has taken $66 million in it's opening weekend to repeat that feat on the other side of the pond.

The powerful but arrogant warrior Thor is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard and sent to live amongst humans on Earth, where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.

The movie has propelled Chris Hemsworth to fame and he is all set to reprise the role of Thor in The Avengers.

Fast Five had another strong week as it took $32.5 million but it slid down to second after just a week at the top spot.

Jumping The Broom and Something Borrowed were the only other new entries inside the top ten as they opened at three and four.

Animation movie Rio fell three places to five while Water For Elephants was also down as it slid out of the top five to number six.

Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family was one of this week's biggest fallers as it dropped four places from three to seven.

Prom and Hoodwinked Too! were the other big movers over the weekend as they also dropped four spots to finish at eight and nine.

Soul Surfer rounded off the top ten, dropping the spots from last week's number seven.
