Tim Burton

Tim Burton is to head the Cannes Film Festival jury.

The fifty one year old director has been responsible for some of cinema's most exciting movies including Edward Scissorhands, Batman and Big Fish as well as a very successful partnership with Johnny Depp.

But this is not the first time that Burton has sat on the jury taking his place in 1997 before returning to judge the short films in 2006.

In a statement released by the organisers of the festival the filmmaker said: "After spending my early life watching triple features and 48-hour horror movie marathons, I'm finally ready for this.

"When you think of Cannes you think of world cinema. And as films have always been like dreams to me, this is a dream come true."

The festival will run from May 12 to 23 and the rest of the jury are yet to be revealed.

Burton will return to the big screen this week with Alice in Wonderland, which sees him reunite with Depp.
