Zac Efron has revealed that he turned down the chance of starring in the remake of Footloose because he just couldn't see himself doing it.
The actor was tipped to take on the central role, played by Kevin Bacon in the original, but the High School Musical star thought that there was just something missing from the script.
In an interview with Details the actor said: "All the things I loved about Footloose I couldn't find in the project. They just weren't there. I couldn't see myself doing it."
The movie would have reunited the young actor with high School Musical filmmaker Kenny Ortega and Efron admits that it was difficult telling him that he was not going to take on the project.
"I love Kenny with all my heart. It was literally the hardest phone call I've ever made."
But Efron is back on out screens later this year with his new movie Charlie St Cloud, his first film since 17 Again early last year.The movie is directed by Burr Steers and sees Efron work alongside Kim Basinger.
Charlie St Cloud is released 8th October.
