Zac Efron has dropped out of the remake of 1984 musical Footloose.
Efron was slated to take over Kevin Bacon's lead role in the updated film, but Paramount Pictures executives have confirmed he's no longer their star.
Paramount said in a statement: "Footloose is a project we've longed to see rebooted for a new generation.
"While Zac is no longer attached, we remain excited and committed to the collective brain trust of [director] Kenny Ortega [and producers] Neil Meron and Craig Zaden, who will reinvigorate the franchise.
"Their fresh take on the film will undoubtedly be filled with the same kind of breakout performances that we've come to expect from them."
After the success of High School Musical Efron has shot to stardom later this year he stars in 17 Again alongside Matthew Perry.
He will also star in Me and Orson Welles and a sequel to the 2007 musical hit Harispray is also in the pipeline.
