Zachary Quinto has denied talk that he is to quit the role of Spock at the end of the Star Trek Into Darkness.

Rumours about the actor's departure from the franchise were ignited by the actor himself when he gave a bit of a cryptic answer in a recent interview.

Talking about the movie to Entertainment Weekly the actor said: "It's like an era of association with certain roles - a specific part like Spock, or a kind of part, like Sylar - is coming to an end."

And the actor was quick to nip the talk in the bud as he took to Twitter in an attempt to put an end to the rumours.

He tweeted: "Simmer down kids. rumours are rumours for a reason. quotes out of context. let's let the second movie come out before we talk about a third..."

Quinto took over the role of Spock back in 2009 when the Star Trek franchise was re-booted by director J.J. Abrams.

A sequel is set to hit the big screen next summer with Quinto, Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Karl Urban all reprising their roles.

Star Trek Into Darkness is released 17th May 2013.
