Mackie is set to reprise the role of Falcon in the third solo Captain America film and is the first time that we have seen him take on this role since Ant-Man.

The movie reunites the actor with Chris Evans as well as director's Anthony and Joe Russo, who are back in the director's for the first time since the huge success of The Winter Soldier back in 2014.

Speaking to Empire, the actor said: "I would say this one is more of a true suspense thriller. The build-up to the fight is what makes it so interesting because there are so many different factions of who's right and who's wrong and who supports who.

"Once we get all of that out the way, then it becomes more action-packed and more of us kicking each others' ass... If it's a civil war, you have to establish why there's a war. You can't just start fighting and expect people to appreciate it."

We were introduced the character of Falcon for the first time in Winter Soldier and have seen him make brief appearances in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man.

Evans and Mackie will be joined on the cast list by Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, and Elizabeth Olsen.

As for Mackie, he will be back on the big screen next week with new crime thriller Triple 9. The actor is part of the film's terrific ensemble cast and will star alongside Kate Winslet, Aaron Paul, Carey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The actor is currently working on TV film All The Way, which will see him take on the role of Martin Luther King Jr.

Captain America: Civil War is released 29th April.
