Jason Momoa made quite the splash as Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman in last year’s Justice League movie, and now with his own solo flick on the horizon, directed by the brilliant James Wan, this weekend saw the first official trailer for Aquaman debut as part of San Diego Comic-Con. You can check out the teaser below:

Warner Bros. Pictures along with filmmaker Wan look to be offering one of the most action-packed DC films to-date, along with a stunning underwater world of Atlantis. They’d been holding out on putting out a trailer until the CGI had been worked on a little more, and whilst there’s still some work to be done, it looks as if this could be one of the most visually breathtaking films of the year.

As Momoa returns to centre-stage in the titular role, we’ll see his character vying for the position of King against his brother Orm, aka Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson). With his sibling intent on waging war against the world above the ocean, he must dig deep and find the grit and determination that will see him become the hero and king he was born to be.

The trailer also offers an amazing glimpse at the Black Manta costume being used in the film, which looks like it was ripped straight from the pages of the Aquaman comic book series. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II takes on the vengeful role, and stars alongside Amber Heard as “fierce warrior” Mera; Willem Dafoe as “council to the Atlantean throne” Vulko; Dolph Lundgren as “King of the Atlantean tribe Xebel”, Nereus; and Nicole Kidman as Arthur’s mother, Atlanna. Ludi Lin plays Atlantean Commando Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison rounds out the all-star cast as Arthur’s father, Tom Curry.

Aquaman comes to cinemas across the UK on December 14, 2018.
