Kevin Feige believes that director Joss Whedon has found the perfect balance between action and character development in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Feige has revealed that there was a lot of talk about not trying to top the action of Avengers Assemble and that the character development was key to this second Avengers film.

However, when Feige read the outline of Whedon's script for Age of Ultron, he realised that the director would actually be able to achieve both.

Speaking to Screen Rant, Feige said: "It was also interesting because we had talked a lot about not feeling the need to top the action from the first movie. We don't need to top the action, we don't need the spectacle, we want to delve into the characters.

"When I read the outline I said, 'Joss, you understand you're doing both here, you're trying to top both' and I think he's pulled it off. There are some of the best character interactions of any of our films in this movie and at the same time very very clearly the biggest action we've ever had."

Age of Ultron comes three years after the success of Avengers Assemble and sees Whedon back in the director's chair as well as on writing duties. This will be the final time that we will see Whedon at the helm of an Avengers film.

Age of Ultron is set to be bigger and darker than the first film, as we are introduced to new villain Ultron - brought to life by James Spader. Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and The Vision are some of the other new characters on board, played by Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor Johnson, and Paul Bettany.

Feige has enjoyed huge success as Marvel President in recent years with Avengers Assemble and Iron Man 3 both grossing over $1 billion. Last year, Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier continued that success - going on to become the third and fourth highest grossing Marvel movies so far.

And the Marvel schedule is a busy one over the next couple of years with Captain America: Civil War, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Thor: Ragnarok continued already established franchises.

We are also going to be introduced to some great new characters as there are solo movies for Doctor Stranger, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel before Avengers Infinity War will be split into two movies in 2018 and 2019.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is released 23rd April.
