Anthony and Joe Russo are going to take over the director's chair for an Avengers film for the first time - following in the footsteps of Joss Whedon.

We have been building up to the two Infinity War movies ever since we caught a glimpse of Thanos at the end of Avengers Assemble back in 2012 - and it looks like Captain America: Civil War is going to lay further foundations for the upcoming Avengers films.

And while Avengers Infinity Part One and Part Two will be filmed at the same time, Russo says that they have very different plans for the two films.

Speaking to io9, the director said: "The movies are very, very different from one another. It's not a part one and part two scenario, necessarily. They're just two different expressions.

"I think it creates a misconception that we're shooting them at the same time."

The Russo brothers are no strangers to the Marvel world with Captain America: The Winter Solider and Captain America: Civil War already under their belt. The latter is set to hit the big screen in a couple of weeks and is on course to be another mammoth box office success for the duo and the studio.

And while the Avengers movies are a different franchise within the Marvel Universe, Russo says that there will be a continuing story arc between the four films that they will have directed.

He continued: "For us there's a through line from Winter Soldier, through Civil War, right to Infinity War. In our mind, the storytelling arc moves that way."

"There's an overarching story that's going to be told through all four films," added Joe Russo. "And I think having the amount of characters we have in [Civil War] certainly prepares us to deal with probably triple the amount of characters in Infinity War."

Civil War will see our heroes divided and going head to head as Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Sebastian Stan, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, and Paul Bettany are all set to star.

Captain America: Civil War is released 29th April.

Avengers Infinity War Part One and Two will be released in 2018 and 2019.
