Bastards

Bastards

Deborah Perkin is set to return to the director's chair later this month, with new film Bastards.

Perkins has already been behind documentaries such as The Man Who Discovered Egypt and Just Read with Michael Rosen, and this time around, she introduces us to Rabha El Haimer.

Haimer is an illiterate woman who took on tradition, her own family, and the Moroccan legal system for the sake of her illegitimate child.

Bastards is a powerful and funny documentary that exposes the contemporary issues facing Islamic women as never seen before.

A brand new trailer has been released for the film, and we have it for you to take a look at:

Perkin spent four years researching and negotiating unprecedented access. She spent many months living amongst her subjects in a Casablanca slum, and persuaded the Moroccan Ministry of Justice to allow her to film inside a family court, a privilege rarely, if ever, granted to a filmmaker before.

As a result, she has delivered a powerful documentary that feels raw and incredibly real.

Bastards has already played on the festival circuit, and is set to be a film not to miss.

Bastards is released 11th July.
