Ben Stiller is considering quit acting to focus on directing full time.

Stiller is back in the director's chair for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty; a movie that he also stars in.

The film is based on the short story by James Thurber and will see Stiller play the title role.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter the actor said: "I definitely could see myself just directing, for sure. That's where I'd love to end up.

"On 'Mitty', there weren't a lot of days when I wasn't acting and directing. But on 'Tropic Thunder' the days when I wasn't acting were my favourite days, because I got to just be there and stand behind the monitor and work with the actors."

Tropic Thunder was the last time that we saw Stiller in the director's chair, but he has been behind films such as Zoolander, The Cable Guy and Reality Bits.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty sees Stiller team up with Kristen Wiig and Sean Penn.

Stiller is currently filming Night and the Museum 3 and will be lending his voice to The Penguins of Madagascar.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is released 26th December.
