Captain America: Civil War has joined the $1 billion club, passing the mark this weekend.

Civil War looked on course to break through the $1 billion barrier over the weekend and the Marvel film has now grossed $1.053 billion at the global box office. It has reached that mark in just three weeks.
It is currently the nineteenth highest grossing film of all time and has now grossed more than Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Jurassic Park, Alice In Wonderland, and The Dark Knight.
Civil War, which kicked off Phase 3 of Marvel films, has become the first film of gross over $1 billion so far this year and is the highest grossing film of 2016; that title it captured last week, taking over from Disney animated film Zootropolis.
This is the third Marvel film to gross over $1 billion and follows in the footsteps of Avengers Assemble, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Iron Man 3.
Civil War is the third standalone Captain America film and the most successful to date. Easily surpassing the $714.4 million posted by Captain America: Civil War two years ago.
Civil War sees Anthony and Joe Russo return to the director's chair for their second consecutive Captain America film. The duo steered Winter Solider to success in 2014 and have elevated this franchise even further with this latest film.
The movie reunites the directors with Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan while they work with Robert Downey Jr, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, and Elizabeth Olsen for the first time.
Anthony and Joe Russo will return to the MCU later this year when they are set to direct Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 - taking over the Avengers director's chair from Joss Whedon for the first time.
Captain America: Civil War is the first of two Marvel films this year; we will be introduced to Doctor Strange for the first time in the autumn.
2017 will be a very busy year for the studio as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok are all set to hit the big screen. Casting is also well under way from Black Panther, which will be released in 2018.
