Rumours have been swirling for some time that legendary singer Cher may have picked up an exciting new role in upcoming Disney sequel, Hocus Pocus 2.

With Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy all set to make their return as the terrifying yet goofy Sanderson sisters, Winifred, Sarah and Mary respectively, the movie has already got a lot of star power, but it looks like fans want even more.

Taking to Twitter to address the rumours, the performer replied directly to a fan named Shell who asked if she had been cast as a surprise fourth Sanderson sister, called Elizabeth. Her response was simple enough: "No Babe."

Cher is of course no stranger to the world of acting, having delivered some unforgettable performances throughout the years in the likes of Mermaids, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and, even picking up an Oscar for Best Actress following her turn in Moonstruck.

Unfortunately though, fans are going to have to hold out if they have hopes of seeing her on the big screen again, because whilst it would be a nice surprise to see the pop Goddess in Hocus Pocus 2, we don't think she'd make such a definitive statement about not appearing if it was going to happen.

Now that Cher has made it clear she's not going to be around, conversation has turned to Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, who many believe will play the aforementioned fourth Sanderson sister, or even the mother of the original trio. She's been confirmed as being a part of the cast, but her role is still being kept under wraps.

Whether that will come to fruition remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure; the thirst for a Hocus Pocus sequel is as strong as ever.

I'm one of Cher's biggest fans and so I'm saddened to hear she's not involved in this utterly camp Disney project. She would have fit right in, especially thanks to her friendship with leading lady Bette Midler. Who wouldn't want to see the pair duet in a spooky number when the sequel makes its debut?

Thankfully, this isn't the end for Cher's acting career. She will be a part of new project Artist in Residence, directed and written by Raymond De Felitta. Cher will play Toni, who is described as an "eccentric woman with nothing to lose" and, who will go up against the son of a real estate mogul, who is sent to buy her property, as she's the last remaining resident of a New York building his parent has their eye on. Sounds like fun to me!

Hocus Pocus 2 is expected to hit Disney+ at some point in October 2022.
