Chris Pine says he doesn’t believe a Jack Ryan sequel will be happening any time soon.
Pine became the fourth actor to take over the role of literary hero Ryan in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit at the beginning of the year. However, it was a movie that was not met well by the critics and struggled at the box office upon release.
Pine followed in the footsteps of Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck to play Ryan and has called is a ‘deep regret’ that they were unable to get the movie right and make it a big box office success as he is such a huge fan of the character.
Speaking to Moviefone, the actor said: "I don't think it made enough money for [a sequel] to happen. That's one of my deep regrets, that we didn't totally get that right.
"It's a great franchise and if it's not me then I hope it gets a fifth life at this point. It's just great. I love the spy genre. I hope it's done again and with a great story."
Shadow Recruit saw Kenneth Branagh back in the director’s chair for the first time since Thor, as well as being on the cast list. Keira Knightley and Kevin Costner also starred in the movie alongside Pine and Branagh.
As for Pine, we are going to be seeing him back on the big screen in January as he tackles the musical with the highly anticipated Into The Woods, which is an adaptation of the stage musical by Stephen Sondheim and sees Rob Marshall back in the director’s chair.
The movie brings together s whole host of well-known fairy tale characters and sees Pine take on the role of Prince Charming as part of an all-star cast. Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, James Corden, and Emily Blunt are just some of the names that are on board and going to be showing off their singing skills as well as their acting ability.
Pine has also completed work on Z for Zachariah and The Finest Hours. Z for Zachariah will see him star alongside Margot Robbie and Chiwetel Ejiofor, while Craig Zobel is in the director’s chair. The Finest Hours sees the actor star alongside Ben Foster, Eric Bana, and Casey Affleck.
Into The Woods is released 9th January 2015.
