Hitting cinemas later this year and ahead of today’s official trailer launch, a creepy new poster has been released for IT; the upcoming horror flick based on the hugely popular Stephen King novel of the same name.

IT comes to UK cinemas on September 8, 2017

In the poster, we see one young child approaching a mysterious figure who’s holding out a shiny red balloon; it’s a scene that will instantly ring familiar for anybody’s who’s read the book or seen the IT adaptations of the past. You don’t have to see the infamous character in all his glory here for an impact to be made.

Directed by Andres Muschietti with a screenplay from Chase Palmer and Gary Dauberman, the new film follows the town of Derry, Maine where a slew of children begin to disappear. When a group of youngsters realise they’re going up against an evil clown named Pennywise, their biggest fears are brought to the forefront, but this isn’t Pennywise’s first time harassing residents of Derry, with the clown’s murder and violence exposed as dating back for centuries.

Luring children to their death by a variety of different means, the villainous clown will be played by actor Bill Skarsgård, with an ensemble of young actors also starring, including Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Finn Wolfhard, Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer and Nicholas Hamilton.

Though there are those who will forever be loyal to the book and the TV adaptation that followed, this upcoming release looks to be a respectful and close adaptation of the original source material. Aiming for an R-rating, it could mark one of the year’s most violent and hard-to-watch releases, but hopefully will have a huge payoff when all is said and done.

Keep up-to-date with Female First as we await the trailer for the flick later today…
